There was a district office in Jungang Park (Present Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park) and the local governor of Daegu lived there. The hill functioned as a main street in the past. So, when the local governors came to Daegu or moved to other regions for the service, they crossed Wongogae hill and they stopped by the hill.
It is assumed that Wongogae was the only passage for the local governors.
Some also say that Wongogae got its name when the new local governor died while crossing the hill. Actually, there is a grave of the local governor on the hill and people performed rites for the local governor.

There is another story that the grave is actually the grave of the local governor’s horse. However, there isn’t any grave left in Wongogae due to urban development.
